Over the past quarter-century, the Subaru Outback has carved out a niche as a uniquely adventurous utility vehicle with the genuine go-anywhere capability that only comes from standard Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD, X-MODE® and generous ground clearance. Now, with the all-new 2021 Subaru Outback, these qualities are taken to bold new heights. Completely reengineered from top to bottom, the new Outback is now built on the Subaru Global Platform, features the choice of two all-new SUBARU BOXER® engines and has even more advanced safety systems. The new exterior design matches the rugged character of the Outback, while the new interior brings unexpected levels of comfort and refinement. The passenger cabin also delivers more space for everyone, as well as increased versatility for carrying more adventurous gear. To top it all off, the standard roof rails with crossbars make it easy to bring bulkier items along for the ride. The 2020 Subaru Outback had a big reputation to live up to—now, it’s equipped for even bigger challenges.
Adventurous at heart,
rugged to the core
The all-new 2021 Subaru Outback sports a new exterior design that is both bold and purposeful. The rugged qualities of this authentic adventurer shine through in the aggressive front fascia, cutting-edge front LED headlights and sweeping rear LED taillights. The overall stance of the vehicle is wider and more planted, while improved aerodynamics help to improve efficiency and stability. The high ground clearance and generous glass area complete the picture, emphasizing that the Outback features a commanding a view of the road—any road.
Roof Rails with Swing-in-place Crossbars
The cargo-carrying capacity of the all-new Outback gets a big boost courtesy of the standard roof rails with swing-in-place crossbars. Redesigned tie-down holes now create the added versatility needed for a wider variety of gear, while the crossbars can be moved forward or back to accommodate items of different lengths. The roof rails on the Premier trim level feature slick silver accents.
Triggered by a button on the key fob, the power tailgate features an auto-close function and a stop-position memory function to set the opening height. An integrated safety sensor prompts the tailgate to reverse direction if an object is detected in its path. On the Touring trim level and up, the new hands-free sensor, located near the Subaru badge on the tailgate, allows you to access the cargo area even if your hands are full.
This expansive power sunroof slides open to reveal a fantastic view of the sky above or tilts open to circulate fresh air throughout the cabin. For particularly hot or sunny days, the manual sunshade is ready to provide cool comfort. The all-new Outback now features more headroom, so even the tallest passengers can enjoy the sunroof and still have room to manoeuvre.
Generous Ground Clearance
The authentic go-anywhere capability of the all-new Outback is further enhanced by 220 mm of ground clearance, more than enough to clear the average obstacle. This feature also comes in handy when driving through deep snow, in ruts or over pothole-strewn surfaces.
Aluminum Alloy Wheels
There are three bold and ruggedly-looking aluminum alloy wheel packages available for the all-new Outback. The Touring trim level features daring 17-inch alloy wheels with a black and machined finish. The Outdoor trim level showcases rugged 18-inch alloy wheels with a gunmetal painted finish. Finally, the Limited and Premier models receive bold and adventurous 18-inch black and machined finish alloy wheels.
